A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS TO ENTER INTO AGREEMENT WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE AND ACCEPT THE 2020 COPS HIRING GRANT

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro was awarded the 2020 COPS Hiring Grant in the amount of $618,158 with a local match requirement of $206,053 for a total award of $824,211; and
WHEREAS, the FY2020 COPS Hiring Program award provides funding to law enforcement agencies to hire career law enforcement officers in an effort to increase community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts; and
WHEREAS, this grant will fund 5 new officer positions (salaries and benefits) at 75% by the U.S. Department of Justice and a 25% local match during the first three years and 100% local funds for the fourth year; and
WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas passed the 2020 Budget in Resolution RES-19:201, which will need to be amended in order to reflect the award amount’s local match.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS THAT:
SECTION 1: The City of Jonesboro will enter into agreement with the Department of Justice to accept the 2020 COPS Hiring Grant for $617,158 for five officers for a three year period; and
SECTION 2: The 2020 budget is hereby amended to provide a change in the Federal Funds budget for the COPS Hiring Program to account for the amount of local match needed for the balance of the year, wherein the remaining local match will be included in future budget requests; and
SECTION 3: The Mayor and the City Clerk are hereby authorized by the City Council for the City of Jonesboro to execute all documents necessary to effectuate this application.
