A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF JONESBORO TO APPLY FOR THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION (“EDA”) FY 2020 PUBLIC WORKS AND ECONOMIC ADJUSTMENT ASSISTANCE GRANT (“GRANT”)

WHEREAS, the EDA has informed the City of Jonesboro that an application for the Grant has been selected for further consideration; and,
WHEREAS, the Grant will address much-needed expansion regarding rail in the industrial park and provide crucial assistance for its growing industries, attracting new companies and expansion of a current company, and adding new jobs and retention of jobs; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas recognizes the Grant is available at 80% Federal participation and 20% local match for construction of the rail expansion project (“PROJECT”), which is part of Phase 2 of the Jonesboro Industrial Lead Rail Expansion Plan; and,
WHEREAS, the City is applying for $2,509,650 to construct the Project which consists of $2,000,000 of Federal Funds and a local match of $509,650, which would be in the City’s 2021 budget; and,
WHEREAS, the City intends to apply for other funding to supplement the City’s matching fund for the Project.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS THAT:
SECTION 1: The Jonesboro City Council supports the submission of the Grant and hereby authorizes the East Arkansas Planning and Development District to initiate action to implement this project.
SECTION 2: The Mayor and the City Clerk are hereby authorized by the City Council for the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas to execute all necessary documents to effectuate the application.
