AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE JONESBORO CODE OF ORDINANCES §54-43, KNOWN AS YARD WASTE COLLECTION

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas provides for the collection of residential yard waste; and,
WHEREAS, yard waste placed in paper bags will provide for expedited collection and lower costs to the City; and,
WHEREAS, requiring paper bags instead of plastic bags will reduce the amount of material sent to the landfill and the handling of said material.
NOW THERFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS
Section 1: That the following section be added to §54-43 of the Jonesboro Code of Ordinances.
(g) Beginning on April 1, 2020, residential yard waste collected by the City of Jonesboro shall only be in paper bags, and must be sealed at the top of the bag.
(h) Commercial businesses, lawn care and tree service companies, and contractors may not place any type of yard waste for collection by the city, and must dispose of such yard waste at their cost according to state and local requirements. Any bags containing yard waste or other similar waste vegetation that is within view from the street must be disposed of within 30 days.
(i) Any residential yard waste placed in a plastic bag in view from the street must be disposed under the same requirements as Section (h).
