Body

WHEREAS,  Councilman Charles Frierson and Mr. Bob Gibson would like to duly honor the memory of a great contributor to the Craighead Forest Park Lake by naming the levee after Ralph Mattix.

WHEREAS, Mr. Mattix worked with the National Guard to increase the size of the lake and have the National Guard build a dirt levee that held back 100 acres of water; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Mattix contacted Arkansas State College (which is now Arkansas State University) to have the materials they were removing from Cooley Circle taken to the levee, where Mr. Mattx waited with a tractor and blade to place the material on the water side of the levee. This created the levee we now have today.
