AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING 2% RAISE FOR THE MAYOR AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY

WHEREAS, the City Council authorized raises for all employees in 2016; and
WHEREAS, elected officials were not included in those raises and have not received any increase since 2015, which was a cost of living raise given to all employees; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Council to give a cost of living pay raise to the Mayor in the amount of 2%; and
WHEREAS, monies needed for said increase are included in the 2018 budget.
BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council for the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas that:
SECTION ONE: The City of Jonesboro authorizes a pay raise in the amount of 2% for the Mayor.
SECTION TWO: Said raise shall be retroactive to January 1, 2018.
SECTION THREE; Whereas, it is necessary for the efficient operation of Jonesboro City Government, and for the financial continuity of 2018, that a budget be planned and adopted. Now therefore an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety shall take effect from and after its passage and approval.
