Title

AN ORDINANCE TO DELETE AND REPLACE THE LANGUAGE OF ORDINANCE 66-6 TO PROVIDE FOR TEMPORARY, LONG TERM OR PERMANENT STREET CLOSURES BY THE CITY OF JONESBORO

Body

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro has need to control access on driveways, streets, alleys and parking lots in the city; and

 

WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas desires to clarify said closings.

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS THAT:

 

SECTION 1:  That the language of Ordinance 66-6 shall be deleted and replaced with the following:

 

Sec. 66-6  Temporary, Long Term or Permanent Street Closures

 

a) The Mayor, City Engineer, Street Superintendent, Police Chief or Fire Chief is authorized to temporarily prohibit parking, stopping or standing on driveways, streets, alleys, and parking lots and may cause traffic to be restricted or rerouted as necessitated by construction, emergency situations or special events on public streets.  When time permits, notice of such restrictions shall be given by the posting of temporary signs or barriers by any designated city official.  It shall be prohibited to violate such regulations.

 

b) The Mayor may request a city street be closed to vehicular traffic permanently.  In a permanent closure of this type, the city shall maintain ownership and maintenance of the street and is not vacating or abandoning the street.  A permanent closure of a city street shall be approved by resolution of the City Council.  If approved, the closed street shall be appropriately blocked or barricaded to thru traffic.
