AN ORDINANCE TO APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF A CATERPILLAR EXCAVATOR FOR THE STREET DEPARTMENT, APPROPRIATING FUNDS, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY

WHEREAS, the city is in need of an additional Caterpillar Excavator for the Street Department to aid in ditch cleaning; and
WHEREAS, there is an urgent need to secure a new Excavator to continue regular work at Street Department locations; and
WHEREAS, the price for the purchase of a new Caterpillar Model 325FCR are located on NJPA (National Joint Powers Alliance) Cooperative Contract NJPA-060311 at the cost of $255,402.35; and
BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council for the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas that:
SECTION ONE: The Mayor is hereby authorized to purchase said Caterpillar Excavator.
SECTION TWO: There is hereby appropriated the sum of $255,402.35 from the unappropriated balance in the Street fund for the purchase of the Excavator.
SECTION THREE: The City Council further finds and declares that an emergency exists and this Ordinance being necessary for the possible flooding safety, this Ordinance shall take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval.
