A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF JONESBORO TO ENTER INTO AGREEMENT WITH THE ARKANSAS STATE POLICE AND ACCEPT THE 2017 STEP GRANT

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro was awarded the FY2017 STEP Grant in the amount of $71,800 federal funds and $15,000 state funds; and
WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro will match through in-kind services of $45,400 in officers' salaries and fringe benefits already appropriated in the budget and $11,360 of department equipment in the performance of said project; and
WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro will accept all accounting and reporting responsibilities for said grant; and
WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro will use said funds for overtime pay of officers for seat belt enforcement, DWI/DUI enforcement, speed enforcement, laser speed measurement devices, passive alcohol detecting flashlight, conference travel for officers and along with the $15,000 for the purchase of child safety seats, and
WHEREAS, this grant requires approval before September 12, 2016, in order to receive funding for the grant period beginning October 1, 2016 through September 30, 2017.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS THAT:
SECTION 1: The City of Jonesboro will enter into agreement with the Arkansas State Police to accept the 2017 STEP Sub-grant in the amount of $143,600, and
SECTION 2: The Mayor and the City Clerk are hereby authorized by the City Council for the City of Jonesboro to execute all documents necessary to effectuate this contractual agreement.
