RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS, GRANTS AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT TO APPLY FOR THE 2022 ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT (AFG) PROGRAM FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY

WHEREAS, applications are now being accepted for the FY 2022 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG); and
WHEREAS, the AFG program is funded at 90% by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security with a 10% local match requirement; and
WHEREAS, the Jonesboro Fire Department (JFD) is seeking $678,357 in Federal funding with $75,373 in local match for a total of $753,730 to purchase a Gen2 Combo - Special Mission Tender (SMT) and a Basic Trench SMT, both equipped with generators; and,
WHEREAS, the trailers specialize in effective response for structural collapse (USAR) and trench collapse incidents. The equipment permits JFD and the city to provide services in the event of a natural or manmade disaster to Northeast Arkansas as this technology is not readily available in this region.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS THAT:
SECTION 1: The Jonesboro, Arkansas, City Council supports the submission of the 2022 Assistance to Firefighters Grant application for the purchase of a Gen2 Combo SMT and a Basic Trench SMT with generators.
SECTION 2: The Mayor and the City Clerk are hereby authorized by the City Council for the City of Jonesboro to execute all necessary documents to effectuate the application; and
SECTION 3: The Grants and Community Development Department is hereby authorized by the City Council for the City of Jonesboro to submit all necessary documents for this federal grant.
