RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS, GRANTS AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT TO APPLY FOR THE STATE OF ARKANSAS, DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY, DIVISION OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT, ARKANSAS WIRELESS INFORMATION NETWORK PROJECT GRANT (AWIN)

WHEREAS, applications are now being accepted for the ARKANSAS WIRELESS INFORMATION NETWORK PROJECT GRANT (AWIN); and
WHEREAS, the AWIN program is funded at 75% by the STATE OF ARKANSAS, DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY, DIVISION OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT, ARKANSAS WIRELESS INFORMATION NETWORK PROJECT GRANT with a 25% local match requirement; and
WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro is seeking $300,000 in State funding with $100,000 in local match for a total of $400,000 to purchase new AWIN Portable Radios; and
WHEREAS, The City of Jonesboro is in need of replacing the old FDMA radios and obtaining new radios that give us capacity to work with the AWIN towers.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS THAT:
SECTION 1: The Jonesboro, Arkansas, City Council supports the submission of the STATE OF ARKANSAS, DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY, DIVISION OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT, ARKANSAS WIRELESS INFORMATION NETWORK PROJECT GRANT (AWIN);
SECTION 2: The Mayor and the City Clerk are hereby authorized by the City Council for the City of Jonesboro to execute all necessary documents to effectuate the application; and
SECTION 3: The Grants and Community Development Department is hereby authorized by the City Council for the City of Jonesboro to submit all necessary documents for this state grant.
