RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS GRANTS AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT TO APPLY FOR THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FY22 RAILROAD CROSSING ELIMINATION GRANT.

WHEREAS, applications are now being accepted for the FY22 Railroad Crossing Elimination Grant; and
WHEREAS, The City of Jonesboro understands the community benefit of addressing regular blocking of the area due to train movement; and
WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro has seen the safety concerns caused by the railroad crossing on Gee Street including preventing first responders from reaching emergency locations and being forced to find alternative routes resulting in critical delays of service; and
WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro is seeking for $8,248,320 in federal funds for the construction of an overpass on Gee Street to span the railroad crossing. With $2,062,080 as the 20% local match for a total project cost of $10,310,400.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS THAT:
SECTION 1: The City of Jonesboro, Arkansas supports the submission of the FY22 Railroad Crossing Elimination Grant application to the U.S. Department of Transportation for the construction of the Gee Street Overpass.
SECTION 2: The Mayor and the City Clerk are hereby authorized by the City Council for the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas to execute all documents necessary to effectuate this application.
SECTION 3: The Grants and Community Development Department is hereby authorized by the City Council for the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas to submit all necessary documents for this federal program.
