A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS TO ENTER INTO AGREEMENT WITH THE ARKANSAS DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION OFFICE OF INTERGOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS AND ACCEPT THE COMPREHENSIVE OPIOID ABUSE PROGRAM AWARD IN THE AMOUNT OF $50,000

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas was awarded the COMPREHENSIVE OPIOID ABUSE PROGRAM AWARD IN THE AMOUNT OF $50,000
WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro will not have a match with all funding being provided by the granting agency; and
WHEREAS, the awarded funds will be used for hiring a part-time COAP Multi-Disciplinary Project Coordinator to oversee all functions of the program; and
WHEREAS, the Jonesboro Police Department is responsible for hiring the Coordinator who will be responsible for organizing guest speakers, providing training to officers, establishing an education and outreach campaign for citizens and facilitating that to completion, and performing any other duties associated with the program; and
WHEREAS, the anticipated outcomes of the program include reducing the number of opioid arrests, as well as deaths, and to decrease the use of opioid abuse over a two year span. This will result in Jonesboro once again becoming a clean, more productive, and safe city in which people want to stay, live, and work; and
WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro will accept all accounting and reporting responsibilities for said award; and
WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro will use the funding for prevention and education of the community on opioid abuse.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS THAT:
SECTION 1: The City of Jonesboro, Arkansas will accept this award and enter into agreement with the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and the Comprehensive Opioid Abuse Program.
