AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE FOR CITY ATTORNEY RETIREMENT BENEFITS

WHEREAS, the City Attorney shall be paid retirement benefits pursuant to A.C.A. 24-12-120; and

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro has employed attorneys in the position of Assistant City Attorney since 2004; and

WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Council to be consistent in elected official retirement benefits; and

WHEREAS, the City Council desires to provide the City Attorney with one (1) year of city attorney retirement for each two (2) years served as an employee of the City up to a maximum of an additional two (2) years’ credit towards a city attorney retirement benefit.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS:

SECTION ONE:  That the City Attorney shall be paid retirement according to A.C.A 24-12-120.

SECTION TWO:  That the City Attorney shall receive one (1) year of city attorney retirement for each two (2) years served as an employee of the City up to a maximum of an additional two (2) years’ credit toward a city attorney retirement. 

SECTION THREE:  That all previous ordinances which conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed and replaced.
