A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE CRITICAL IMPORTANCE OF DIVERSE IDEAS AND THOUGHTS RESULTING IN A WIDE RANGE OF PERSPECTIVES; AND COMMITTING THIS CITY COUNCIL TO ENCOURAGE AND SUPPORT ALL CITIZENS OF JONESBORO TOWARD PUBLIC SERVICE.

WHEREAS, this Council understands, respects, and encourages the value to our political process that comes with a diversity of ideas and perspectives provided by our citizens of various wards, ages, races, gender, and other considerations; and
WHEREAS, a wide range of adults in our community can provide unique insights and direction concerning many items that come before this Council, especially, but not limited to, discussions surrounding technology, education, community planning, and social recreation; and
WHEREAS, the continuity of our fundamental political values and processes is critical to the stability and growth of our community; and
WHEREAS, that continuity can only be secured by encouraging a diverse generation of adults in our community to become engaged in the mechanics of Jonesboro’s municipal government; and
WHEREAS, those currently involved in the administration and governance of our city have a moral and civic responsibility to ensure the next generation of community leaders are adequately equipped to understand and interpret the interaction between politics and policy.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1: That the City of Jonesboro will provide those interested, regardless of political ideology, gender, race, age, ward, and other considerations the foundational knowledge on the key principles and issues within the current Jonesboro political system that influence our City’s capacity to complete and deliver public value and services.
SECTION 2: That the City of Jonesboro will commit ourselves to: 1) increasing the awareness of opportunities for public service to all citizens of Jonesboro; 2) reduce barriers which may impede citizens from public service thereby encouraging a diverse group of adults to engage in our political process and begin forming their own understanding of the mechanics of municipal government.
SECTION 3: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval.
