AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND TITLE 6, OF THE JONESBORO CODE OF ORDINANCES, PROVIDING FOR THE ANNUAL VACCINATION AGAINST RABIES OF CATS FROM THREE (3) MONTHS OF AGE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

BE IT ORDAINED, by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

 

SECTION 1: The Jonesboro Code of Ordinances, Section 6.04.10 shall be amended by adding the following:

 

(B)  Vaccination required.  All cats from three (3) months of age kept in the City of Jonesboro shall be vaccinated at least once a year against rabies and it is made the duty of all owners of cats or persons having the possession or control of cats within the city to have such animals vaccinated with vaccine against rabies in an amount, quantity and quality to be approved by the state veterinarian.  It shall be the duty of said owner or person having the control of said cat to cause a metal vaccination tag to be securely attached around the cat's neck and kept there at all times. 

 

SECTION 2: The rest and remainder of said Section 6.04.10 except as expressly amended herein, shall remain in full force and effect.  Further, in the event any portion of said ordinance is held to be invalid, the remaining portion is in full force and effect.

 

SECTION 3: It is further found that an immediate need exists for the vaccination of cats against rabies, and therefore this ordinance being necessary for the preservation of public peace, health and safety, is hereby declared to be an emergency and shall take effect from and after its passage and approval.
