AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE 2007 ANNUAL BUDGET ORDINANCE FOR THE CITY OF JONESBORO FIRE DEPARTMENT

WHEREAS, The City of Jonesboro Fire Department has 15 Fire Officers (Captains and Drivers) making less money than officers and firefighters in lower ranks.
WHEREAS, The City of Jonesboro Fire Department wishes to upgrade the 15 Fire Officer’s (Captains and Drivers) pay through step increases to the lowest step above the highest pay of the rank below.
WHEREAS, The City of Jonesboro Fire Department wishes to give the employees listed on Exhibit A step increases from their current step to their new step with the total additional cost of $12,377 for the remainder of 2007.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS, THAT:
Section 1: The 2007 annual budget for the City of Jonesboro, adopted as Ordinance 05-2007 on January 2, 2007 is amended to convert the 15 Fire Officers (Captains and Drivers) from their current Grade and Step to the new Grade and Step as listed on Exhibit A.
Section 2: It is anticipated that the 2007 annual budget for the City of Jonesboro Fire Department, Full-Time Salaries line item 01-102-0201-00 will have a surplus of funds and no transfer of funds will be needed for these step increases.
Section 3: For the financial and operational continuity of the City of Jonesboro it is hereby found and declared that an emergency exists and that this ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage and approval.
