Oaklawn Cemetery expansion

body

The cost estimate on constructing the Oaklawn Cemetery expansion was originally $820,361.  That cost estimate was figured in August, 2006 and it used dirt from the retention ponds.

Today, the construction documents are complete and we are ready to go to bid.  However, a conservative cost estimate by NRS Engineering has been increased to $1,018,982.00 due mainly to the cost of dirt which we may have to purchase. It is the Parks Departments understanding that dirt from the Valley and Owens retention pond was not able to be used because of the haul distance.

The Perpetual Care Fund has $1,043,103.84 in it as of October 1st.  This is enough to cover the funds of construction if they all come in under bid.  The Parks, Recreation and Cemetery Department is seeking approval to move ahead with the dirt work for the project.  If dirt can be obtained from a retention pond project the Department seeking a recommendation to coordinate with the Public Works Committee.  If dirt cannot be obtained from a retention pond then the city will need to put a bid out on dirt now to get the best price.
