RESOLUTION TO EXPRESS APPRECIATION TO THE TROUTT FAMILY

WHEREAS, the Troutt Family has served the citizens of the City of Jonesboro for 99 years, as publishers and editors of the Craighead County Weekly Sun, The Jonesboro Evening Sun, and the Jonesboro Sun, from 1901 until September 30, 2000; and

 

WHEREAS, John Troutt, Jr. defined the daily newspaperman to the community of Jonesboro, serving both as editor and publisher. As an editor he had few peers and as a publisher he was respected state-wide, nationally and internationally for technological improvements he helped introduce to the publishing industry.

 

WHEREAS, John Troutt, Jr.’s legacy was felt in many areas outside the newspaper field by his support of the arts and literacy, his service to the Arkansas Science and Technology Authority Board of Directors, by his selection in 1990 as the Arkansas Industrial Volunteer Developer of the Year, and as founder of Jonesboro Unlimited. John Troutt, Jr. served unselfishly on the fund drive for the City Team Youth Center and has supported countless civic projects; and

 

WHEREAS, the City Council desires to express its appreciation and gratitude to W. O. Troutt, Fred Troutt, John Troutt Sr., John Troutt Jr., Robert Troutt and Edward Troutt for their civic dedication which shall always be remembered and appreciated by the citizens of Jonesboro.

 

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the City Council for the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas recognizes the community service and civic dedication of the Troutt Family and expresses its heart felt appreciation with the passage of this resolution, which shall be spread upon the permanent records of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas.

 

PASSED AND ADOPTED the 16th day of October, 2000.
