SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING JUNE 9, 1980

The Jonesboro City Council met in special session, Monday, June 9, 1980, with Vice Mayor Cecil Province presiding. All council except Mr. Park was present.

The purpose of the meeting was for discussion on how $125,000 would be dispersed for city employees pay increases. Several options had been previously presented to council for study concerning the pay for police departments.

Charles Wyatt addressed council concerning the proposed pay increase for Fire Chief Rorex and advised council that his feeling were the employees deserve raises, more than the Chief.

Mr. Hinson moved that across the board raises be given. After discussion on the matter, Mr. Hinson withdrew his motion.

Mr. Bridger then moved that the salary of Fire and Police Chief be equalized and all employees be given an 8% increase effective July 1. Motion was seconded by Mr. Shelton. Voting aye: Shelton, Bridger, Minx, Hannah, Haigler, Stricklin, Province, Mays and Haggenmacher. Voting nay: Sanderson and Hinson.

Mr. Hinson indicated the reason for his nay vote was only the dispersing manner and not against an increase.

With there being no further business, council adjournment.
