A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE SUBMISSION OF AN APPLICATION FOR COMMUNITY ORIENTED POLICING SERVICES “SECURE OUR SCHOOLS” PROGRAM FOR THE CITY OF JONESBORO

Body

WHEREAS, applications are now being accepted for the COPS SOS Program for 2011; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas has developed a collaboration with the Valley View Schools and Jonesboro City Schools to improve safety and security in our schools; and

 

WHEREAS, the COPS SOS program is funded 50% by the Department of Justice and requires a 50% cash match, which will be totally funded by the respective school districts; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, is seeking funds in the amount of $116,958.50 in the 2011 application period for the purchase of security equipment, training, assessments, and coordination with local law enforcement; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS:

 

Section 1: That the Jonesboro City Council supports the submission of the application to the 2011 COPS SOS Program for safety and security equipment for the above-mentioned school districts.

 

Section 2: That the Mayor, Harold Perrin, is hereby authorized as the individual with the authority to sign documents necessary to effectuate this process.
