ORDINANCE REGULATING CEMETERIES

body

Hereafter it shall be unlawful for any contractor, or other person, to erect a monument of tombstone within any cemetery of the City of Jonesboro, unless the same shall be placed upon a substantial stone, or concrete base, made perfectly level and all such monuments shall be constructed in a substantial and permanent manner.

The Superintendent of the City Cemeteries is hereby authorized to inspect and to regulate the construction of the base or foundation for all monuments or tombstones, and the construction of all monuments and tombstones, and shall have authority to prevent erections of any such tombstones or monuments without proper foundations, or in a negligent, impermanent or unskillful manner.

If any contractor or other person shall undertake to erect a monument or tombstone in the cemeteries of Jonesboro, and on account of negligent or unskillful workmanship, or on account of the lack of foundation, the same shall become uneven or insecure, or shall sink or fall, or become in danger of doing so, then the Superintendent may have the same repaired or made level and secure, and the charges for such work shall be paid either by the contractor, who erected such monument or tombstone, or by the persons controlling the lot whereon it stands.

A violation of this Ordinance shall constitute a misdemeanor, and any person convicted hereof shall be fined in any sum, not less than $5 nor more than $25.
