AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING PART OF EAST MATTHEWS AVENUE AS A THROUGH STREET; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

 

Section 1: From and after passage and adoption of this Ordinance, East Matthews Avenue at the intersection of Patrick Street shall be designated as a trough street and the traffic on Patrick Street shall stop and yield the right-of-way to vehicle traveling on East Matthews Avenue.

 

Section 2: The Chief of Police or some person designated by him is hereby directed to place and maintain a Stop Sign on Patrick Street on the either side of East Matthews Avenue and remove any Stop Signs on East Matthews Avenue at its intersection with Patrick Street.

 

Section 3: All Ordinances and parts of Ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.

 

Section 4: It is found and declared by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro that due to the heavy traffic which travels on East Matthews Avenue there is created and caused a traffic problems and hazards at its intersection with Patrick Street resulting in injuries to person and property and this Ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an emergency is hereby declared and this Ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage and approval.

 

PASSED and ADOPTED this 18th day of April, 1966.
