RESOLUTION SETTING A POLICY ON ANNEXATION OF NEW SUBDIVISIONS

body

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro continues to grow at a rapid rate, including the expansion of residential areas beyond the City limits, resulting in numerous request for annexation to the City, and

WHEREAS, there is at present no effective way by which subdivisions developed adjacent to the City Limits can be controlled so that they conform to standards within the City regarding street right-of-way, street construction, set-back and side lot requirements, and other regulations and standards,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro that it hereby be declared a policy of this Council to encourage the annexation of adjacent areas before subdivision plans are completed or other activity begun which might result in a petition for annexation, and all such adjacent areas hereafter which do not comply with this policy shall be given careful scrutiny by the Council, and the burden shall be on the petitioners to prove substantial compliance with City standards and regulations before this Council will accept the annexation.
