CITY COUNCIL MINUTES, DECEMBER 5, 1983

The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session, Monday, December 5, 1983, at 7:30 p.m. Present were Mayor, City Clerk, City Attorney, and all Aldermen except Mr. Sanderson.

The minutes of November 21, 1983, were approved as mailed on motion by Mr. Hannah seconded Mr. Shelton. All voted aye.

Mr. John Beason, who spoke for a group of concerned citizens, asked that the Council review all problems that would stem from the enlargement of the landfill north of Jonesboro. He explained that the long term effects of such a landfill could endanger Jonesboro’s water supply as well as many other effects.

Mr. Nix moved, seconded by Mr. Stricklin, to reappoint Ms. Betty Sloan to the Forum Commission. All voted aye.

Mr. Park offered a resolution concerning National Drunk & Drugged Driving Awareness Week.

RESOLUTION DECLARING NOVEMBER 11 THRU 17TH NATIONAL DRUNK & DRUGGED DRIVING AWARENESS WEEK

Mr. Hannah moved, seconded by Mr. Park, to approve the resolution. All voted aye. The resolution was given the number 1983:22.

The following bids were on review:

83-25: Police Cars-The Police Committee asked that this item be withdrawn from the agenda so they would have more time to review the bids. They stated they would have a recommendation at the next meeting.

83-26: Police Mobile Radios-Mr. Hannah moved, seconded by Mr. Stricklin to accept low bid from Motorola for the amount of $3,325.00. All voted aye.

83:27: Equipment Insurance-The Insurance Committee asked that the council allow the purchasing department to rebid this item changing the bid from 100 dollar deductible to 250 dollar deductible. Mr. Province moved, seconded by Mr. Shelton to allow Insurance Committee to accept the low bid before the current insurance lapse. All voted aye.
