Minutes for the City Council meeting on May 16, 1966

The City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Ark., met in regular session in City Hall, Monday night, May 16, 1966, at 7:30 p.m. There were present: Mayor, City Attorney and the following named Councilmen: Sammons, Griffin, Wilson, Bridger, Darling, Stallings, Keller, Williams, Pardew, Mays, Ledbetter and Snow. Absent: City Clerk.
Mr. Bridger moved with Mr. Snow seconding the motion that repairs, widening and resurfacing be authorized for the following streets: Bridge Street and Bridge extended from Johnson to Washington, and Kitchen Street from Matthews to Nettleton. On calling the roll, all members voted aye and the motion was carried.
Mr. Mays offered the following resolution:
RESOLUTION DECLARING THE NEED FOR COMPLETE STUDY OF THE DESIRABILITY OF CREATING AN URBAN RENEWAL AGENCY AND HOUSING AUTHORITY IN THE CITY OF JONESBORO AND DESIGNATING THE PERIOD OF THE TIME DURING WHICH SUCH STUDY SHALL BE MADE AND FINDINGS REPORTED
Mr. Mays moved with Mr. Darling seconding the motion that the resolution be adopted. Roll was called and all members voted aye. Motion carried. The resolution was given the number 1966:14.
Mr. Mays moved with Mr. Bridger seconding the motion that the City makes application for a Federal Urban Beautification Grant, under Title 7 of the Housing Act of 1961. All members voted aye on the roll call and the motion was carried.
Mr. Snow made the motion seconded by Mr. Pardew that the bills as okayed by the Finance Committee be paid. All voted aye and the motion carried.
There being no further business, Council voted unanimously to adjourn.
