AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 15-54 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES BY PROVIDING TWENTY MPH SPEED ZONES IN CERTAIN RESIDENTIAL SECTION

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

 

Section 1: That the Code of Ordinances of the City of Jonesboro is hereby amended by adding sub-sections to be numbered (6), (7). (8), and (9) to Section 15-54 (b) which said subsections read as follows:

 

“Section 15-54 (b)

(6): Twenty miles per hour on Wilkins Avenue beginning at the intersection of Church Street with Wilkins Avenue and extending East to the intersection of Bernard Street with Wilkins Avenue;

(7): Twenty miles per hour on Franklin Street beginning at the intersection of Franklin Street and Nettleton Avenue and extending South to Wilkins Street.

(8): Twenty miles per hour on Bernard Street beginning at the intersection of Bernard Street and Wilkins Avenue and extending South to Highland Drive.

(9): Twenty miles per hour on Hillcrest Drive beginning at the intersection of Hillcrest Drive and Wilkins Avenue and extending South to Highland Drive.”

 

Section 2: It is found and declared by the City Council that the existing general residential maximum speed limit of thirty miles per hour permits a speed in excess of that required by safety in certain residential areas of the City which speed in hazardous to the residents therein and therefore an emergency is declared to exist and this Ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace and safety, it shall take effect from and after its passage and approval.
