CITY COUNCIL MINUTES SEPTEMBER 5, 1978

The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session, Tuesday, September 5, 1978, at 7:30 p.m. Present: Mayor, City Clerk, City Attorney and all elected aldermen.

Mr. Hannah moved that the minutes of August 21, 1978, be approved as mailed, seconded by Mr. Stricklin, all voted aye.

Mr. Park offered the following resolution:

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF FULL APPLICATION FOR SMALL CITIES PROGRAM FUNDING, MAKING CERTAIN ASSURANCES TO DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO CERTIFY CONTENTS OF THIS RESOLUTION

On motion by Mr. Smith, seconded by Mr. Hinson, the resolution was approved by unanimous vote of council. The resolution was given the number 1978:13.

Glen Bradley, Civil Service Director, recommended to council that the City proceed with applications for a 50/50 grant for acquiring radio control for siren system. Mayor advised council that the Jonesboro Jaycees had pledged funds for the radio controls and concluded that the Jaycees are to be highly commended for their efforts in the endeavor. Mr. Stricklin moved that two applications be submitted, one for the radio controls and the other for three additional sirens. The motion was seconded by Mr. Shepard, all voted aye.

Delores Petty, representing neighbors in the McAdams, McDaniel, and Borgman Streets area presented petitions to council concerning speed barriers on these streets. On motion by Mr. Smith, seconded by Mr. Bridge and unanimous vote of council, the request will be turned over to the Traffic Safety Officer for his recommendations at the next meeting.

Mr. Smith offered the following ordinance:

AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CERTAIN TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS THEREOF; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
