AN ORDINANCE CREATING AND PROVIDING FOR THE OPERATION AND CONTROL OF THE JONESBORO PARK COMMISSION

BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and City Council that there is hereby established and created a City Commission to be known as “The Jonesboro Park Commission.”

Section 1: Said Commission to consist of nine members who shall be appointed by the Mayor and City Council. Three members for a term of one year, two for a term of two years, two for a term of three years, and two for a term of four years. Said members shall be composed of representative public spirited citizens and residents of Jonesboro. The membership of the commission, in addition to the above qualifications, may be officials identified with organized civic activities, provided that the majority of the commission shall not at any time represent any non-public organization.

Section 2: The commission shall each year elect one of its members as chairman and such other officers as may be deemed proper and necessary, and shall establish such rules and by-laws as it deems necessary for its guidance.

Section 3: In the event of vacancies caused by death, incapacity, resignation, or for any other reason, a successor shall be appointed by the Mayor and City Council.

Section 4: The terms of the members of the commission shall begin on the day following the first council meeting in January of each year, and they shall serve and hold office until their successors are qualified and appointed.

Section 5: The commission shall make the part facilities available to all members of the public without discrimination at times and without preferential treatment to any individual or group of individuals, and membership of any private association shall not be necessary to enable the use of the facilities.
