AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE A STOP SIGN ON FRANKLIN STREET AT ITS INTERSECTION WITH WILKINS STREET; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION THEREOF; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

 

Section 1: The City Council hereby finds and declares that the condition of traffic is such as to endanger the traveling public at the intersection of Franklin Street with Wilkins Street; and that a stop sign is hereby established and placed on Franklin Street at its intersection with Wilkins Street to stop traffic traveling South on Franklin.

 

Section 2: The drivers of all vehicle3s Southbound on Franklin Street shall so stop at said “Stop Sign” and yield the right-of-way to vehicles on Wilkins Street before entering thereon.

 

Section 3: Every person convicted of a violation of any provision of this Ordinance shall be punished by fine of not more than $15.00.

 

Section 4: It is found and declared by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, that the increasing traffic congestion and lack of any traffic control device here, the intersection of the streets aforesaid has caused a stoppage of traffic and a danger to life and property and this Ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this Ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage and approval.

 

PASSED and ADOPTED this 10th day of June, 1967.
