CITY COUNCIL MINUTES OCTOBER 3, 1977

The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session, Monday, October 3, 1977, at 7:30 p.m. There were present: Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk, and the following named aldermen: Park, Sanderson, Hinson, Shelton, Bridger, Minx, Hannah, Haigler, Stricklin, Province, Smith and Shepard.

The minutes of September 19, 1977, were approved as mailed.

Petitions were presented to council by a member of Acorn, against further widening of East Washington and Kitchen Streets. Members of Acorn also requested that the Fire Station at Nettleton be converted to a community center building. The Mayor advised the group that cost estimates on repairing the building are now being made.

The following bids were opened for police units:

Thomasson Buick $5721.33
O’Neal Ford 5485.00
Aycock Pontiac 5549.00
Central Chevrolet 5900.00

Mr. Hannah moved that the low bid meeting the specifications be accepted, seconded by Mr. Bridger, all voted aye.

The following ordinance was on 3rd reading:

AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING CERTAIN LANDS ANNEXED TO THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS BY ORDER OF THE COUNTY COURT OF CRAIGHEAD COUNTY DATED MARCH 23, 1977; ASSIGNING SAID ANNEXED TERRITORY TO WARD 4; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

Mr. Hannah moved for the adoption of the ordinance, seconded by Mr. Shelton, all voted aye and the ordinance was given #1602.

The following ordinance was on 3rd reading:

AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CERTAIN TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES: TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS THEREOF: AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

Mr. Sanderson moved that Section (e) be amended as follows: The speed limit of Hwy. 63B from the MoPac Railroad south to the limits be increased from 25 MPH. The motion was seconded by Mr. Hinson.
