December 10, 1959

body

The City Planning Commission of Jonesboro, Arkansas, met in regular session on the above date, at 7:30 P.M., in the Engineering Office of City Water and Light Plant.

MEMBERS PRESENT: Planning Commissioners Carson Boothe, Mrs. J. Clifford Hill, Minor Markle and Neal Thayer.

MEMBERS ABSENT:  Planning Commissioners Deal Ellis, Charles Frierson, Al Hendrix, Lloyd Rebsamen, and Elmer Stuck.

Since a quorum was not present, no business was transacted.

Miss Irene Pesick appeared, stated she had purchased a lot on Cobb Street, having been informed by the Fire Chief, acting as Zoning Officer, that the lots was zoned Commercial, upon which she planning to build a structure for a medical laboratory.  The lot is in fact in an R-2 Residential Zone.  James Cobb, represented by John States, appeared and stated there was no objection to rezoning an area including his property to Commercial.  Miss Pesick concluded she would formally request the Planning Commission to hold a Public Hearing, according to law, on rezoning her lot to a Commercial classification.

John Kaffka appeared, stating he desired to move a house from a lot now zoned R-2, owned by him on Huntington, between Floyd and Puryear, upon which lot he now operates a car body shop as a nonconforming use.  He stated an intention of grading and leveling the lot for use as a parking lot and possibly build an office.  The planning commissioners present felt that the removal of the house and leveling of the lot would be within the scope of the zoning ordinance, but that no extension could be made to his body shop building or additional buildings constructed for commercial use under the provisions of the ordinance.
