RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO ACQUIRE THE TITLE TO PROPERTY IN THE VICINITY OF THE OLD EAST SCHOOL IN ORDER TO WIDEN, SURFACE AND IMPROVE EAST STREET, CARSON STREET AND MONROE AVENUE

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro is advised of a potential public use for part of the Old East School premises, which would be in accord with the Land Use Plan as recommended by the Planning Division, University of Arkansas, and would result in creation or continuation of a considerable number of parking spaces in addition to the approximately 45 plus 14 mail vehicle spaces heretofore created in the area, and result in the accomplishment of widening of streets in places of demonstrated need, and the transaction having been approved by the Jonesboro Parking Authority, the Street Committee and the Parking Committee of the City Council;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and the City Clerk be, and they are hereby, authorized to quitclaim the City’s contractual right to acquire title to the property in the vicinity of Old East School, being -
Parts of Lot 1 of Collins Addition; part of Lot 2 of Cobb’s Survey of the Northwest Quarter of Southeast Quarter (NW ¼ SE ¼), and part of Lot 42 of Cobb’s Survey of Southwest Quarter of Southeast Quarter (SW ¼ SE 1/4) Section 18, Township 14 North, Range 4 East,
For a consideration of $45,601.00 plus the purchasers assuming and agreeing to pay the balance of the City’s contracted price for the tract, and provided that the City retain or acquire, by deed from such purchasers, at no additional cost to the City, not less than 13 ½ feet right-of-way on the East side of East Street from Lots 1, 2 and 3 of Collins Addition (276 feet); the North side of Monroe Avenue from East to Carson Streets (453 feet); and the West side of Carson Street for 305 feet North of Monroe Avenue, plus an easement or dedication of a public passageway not less than 40 feet wide across the North end of the tract for the purpose of c...
