Minutes for the City Council meeting on March 25, 1957

The City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Ark. met in special session in City Hall at 7:30 p.m., March 25, 1957. There were present: Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk and the following named Councilmen: Keister, Johnson, Field, Copeland, Stricklin, Brickell, Snow, Hamilton and Hart. Absent: Fritz.
Five insurance companies were represented. Each representative was allowed 15 minutes to explain their plan to the Council. After hearing from all of the insurance men, Mr. Keister made the motion, seconded by Mr. Hamilton, that the City Council approve the Ark. Municipal League Plan with the City to assume $1.15 of the premium on each employee. Roll was called. Keister, Hamilton and Hart voting aye. Mr. Copeland passed. Johnson, Field, Stricklin, Brickell and Snow voting no. Motion failed.
Mr. Hamilton made the motion to adjourn with Mr. Hart seconding. Roll was called. Hamilton and Hart voted aye. Keister, Johnson, Field, Copeland, Stricklin, Brickell and Snow voted no. Motion failed.
Mr. Johnson made the motion, seconded by Mr. Brickell, that Council recess for five minutes in order that the Insurance Committee meet and bring back a recommendation to Council. Roll was called. Keister, Hamilton Hart passed. All other Councilmen voted aye. Motion carried.
After the recess, the Insurance Committee recommended the Ark. Municipal League Plan with City paying $1.15 of the premium. Mr. Johnson made the motion, seconded by Mr. Copeland, that Council accept the Committee’s recommendation. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried.
Mr. Hamilton offered the following Resolution:
RESOLUTION ACCEPTING ARKANSAS MUNICIPAL LEAGUE INSURANCE PLAN.
Mr. Hart mad the motion, seconded by Mr. Johnson, that the Resolution be adopted. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried. The resolution was given the number 1957:06.
