AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF JONESBORO TO BECOME A PART OF PUBLIC TRANSIT AUTHORITY TO BE KNOWN AS THE NORTHEAST ARKANSAS TRANSIT AUTHORITY (NEAT), AND CONFIRMING AN INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT TO BE SIGNED BY THE MAYOR

WHEREAS, pursuant to Ark, Code Ann. 14-334-101 et seq., the City of Jonesboro is authorized to become part of a Public Transit Authority; and,
WHEREAS, to become a part of said authority, the City Council must approve such and any agreement of implementation; and,
WHEREAS, the Northeast Arkansas Transit Authority(NEAT) is being formed pursuant to Ark. Code Ann. 14-334-101 et seq.; the Public Transit System Act; to provide public transit for the citizens of the City of Jonesboro and Craighead County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City of Jonesboro of the County of Craighead, State of Arkansas:
ARTICLE 1: The City of Jonesboro is hereby authorized to become part of a public transit authority to be known as the Northeast Arkansas Transit Authority (NEAT) which shall consist of the City of Jonesboro, Craighead County, and any others that desire to join.
ARTICLE 2: The City of Jonesboro, nor any other entity, may be financially or otherwise obligated except upon specific approval of the respective governing bodies.
ARTICLE 3: The Interlocal Agreement attached hereto and incorporated herein as if set out word for word is hereby approved and the Mayor is authorized to sign said agreement.
