RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS TO ESTABLISH THE JONESBORO BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION

WHEREAS, there is a need to inspire and educate individuals to improve their community by preventing litter, promoting recycling, and keeping Jonesboro beautiful; and,
WHEREAS, these efforts positively impact civic pride, livability and economic growth, creating communities where people want to work, live and play; and,
WHEREAS, a standing advisory commission would be beneficial at addressing the issues above.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS THAT:
Section 1: The Jonesboro Beautification Commission is hereby created. Members will have a three year term.
Section 2: The Committee will make non-binding recommendations to the Mayor and City Council regarding actions to end littering, improve recycling and beautify the community. Those recommendations may include strategies to promote beautification; promotional campaigns to end littering; promoting neighborhood “Spring Cleanup” of large items and the cleanup of the city’s entrances, parks and public spaces; and engage the community in methods to maintain overall appearance and cleanliness. The commission would also establish partnerships to broaden support and understanding to improve community environments.
Section 3: A dedicated fund is established in the city budget to receive contributions and other funds to be used for this purpose.
