AN ORDINANCE TO APPROVE CERTAIN TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS THEREOF, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

 

Section 1: The City Council finds and declared that the conditions of traffic as such to endanger the traveling public and pedestrians at certain streets, intersections, and along certain streets and that certain traffic control devices are established and placed at the following intersections and street:

 

A. A four-way flashing stop light at the intersection of Cate & Bridge.

B. A 20 mile per hour maximum speed limit on Rich Road replacing the current 30 mile an hour speed limit.

 

Section 2: The Drivers of all vehicles shall obey all traffic control signs per instructions on the face thereof.

 

Section 3: The Chief of Police or some other person designated by him is hereby directed to place and locate upon the above described streets at the proper places; appropriate signs designated traffic control as set out above and it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to tear down, remove or mutilate such signs.

 

Section 4: Every person convicted of a violation of any provision of this ordinance shall be punished by a fine of not more than $25.00.

 

Section 5: All ordinances and or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.

 

Section 6: It is found and declared by the City Council that the increasing traffic congestion and lack of traffic control devices have caused or will cause danger to life and property, and this Ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage and adoption.
