ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 3040 AND THE JONESBORO CODE OF ORDINANCES FOR THE PURPOSE OF ALLOWING APPOINTMENTS OF JONESBORO POLICE DEPARTMENT TO CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION DIVISION WITHOUT REQUIRING SAID OFFICER TO HAVE PASSED THE PROMOTIONAL TEST FOR SERGEANT

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

 

SECTION 1: That Section 2.36.01 entitled, Civil Service be amended by removing the following language:

 

“The officer need not be on the current promotional eligibility list in order to be eligible for permanent appointment to the position of detective, but must have passed the promotional test for the position of sergeant at any time prior to the appointment.  Temporary appointments to the criminal investigation division without meeting this criteria in emergency circumstances is permitted but are not to last beyond the cessation of the emergency.”

 

SECTION 2: Section 2.36.01 shall be amended by adding the following provisions:

 

“All officers in order to be eligible for permanent appointment to the position of detective must have two years law enforcement experience.”

 

SECTION 3: All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.
