Minutes for the City Council meeting on October 2, 1961

The City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Ark. met in regular session at City Hall, Monday night, October 2, 1961, at 7:30 p.m. There were present: Mayor, City Atty., City Clerk and the following named Councilmen: Griffin, Smith, Brewer, Snow, Perry, Kenward, Cook, Brickell, Copeland and Ebbert. Absent: Sammons and Field.
The following Ordinance previously approved by the City Planning Commission was offered by Mr. Copeland and placed on the first reading:
AN ORDINANCE PRESCRIBING ADDITIONAL RULES FOR THE LOCATION OF BUILDINGS HEREAFTER ERECTED, CONSTRUCTED, RE-CONSTRUCTED OR ALTERED ALONG CERTAIN STREETS AND DESIGNATED LINES IN OR ADJACENT TO THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS.
Mr. Smith made the motion, seconded by Mr. Copeland that the rule be suspended and the Ordinance be placed on the second reading. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried. Mr. Copeland made the motion, seconded by Mr. Brewer that the rule be further suspended and the Ordinance be placed on the third and final reading. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried. Mr. Smith then moved with Mr. Brickell seconding the motion that the Ordinance be adopted. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried. The ordinance was given the number 1034.
Mr. Copeland read the following Ordinance and placed it on the first reading:
AN ORDINANCE REGULATING AND PROHIBITING THE OPERATION OF GASOLINE OR AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE STATIONS ON SUNDAY AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
Mr. Copeland offered the following Ordinance and placed it on the first reading:
AN ORDINANCE CREATING AND ESTABLISHING THE OFFICE OF PUBLIC WORKS ENGINEER OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS: PRESCRIBING THE QUALIFICATIONS THEREOF AND DUTIES THEREOF AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
Mr. Kenward made the motion, seconded by Mr. Cook that Frolic Footwear produce and publishes a financial statement before the election for the bond issue. On calling the roll, the following voted aye - Snow, Perry,...
