RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS TO ESTABLISH AND APPOINT MEMBERS TO THE JONESBORO COMMITTEE ON HOMELESSNESS

WHEREAS, homelessness is a social concern throughout the nation and in the City of Jonesboro; and,

WHEREAS, it is necessary to study the effects of homelessness on an individual, societal, and fiscal level within the City of Jonesboro; and,

WHEREAS, the need exists to identify and coordinate available services currently being offered in the City of Jonesboro within the faith-based community, non-profits, and other community agencies; and,

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro would benefit from a strategic plan solely directed at making a viable, lasting impact on chronic homelessness in the City that addresses community outreach and engagement, individual identification of needs to reduce duplication of services, long term advocacy and awareness, community policing, and the like; and,

WHEREAS, a standing advisory committee would be beneficial in reviewing homelessness in the City of Jonesboro aimed at addressing the issues above and providing advice to the Mayor and the City Council.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS THAT:

Section 1: The Jonesboro Committee on Homelessness is hereby created.

Section 2: The Committee’s purpose is to establish a viable plan of action to impact chronic homelessness in the City of Jonesboro. The plan of action of the Committee will attempt to address various issues surrounding homelessness, including, but not limited to: identifying the homeless population and assessing needs and capabilities; considering ways to streamline a process of assistance in order to prevent the duplication of efforts and services within community agencies, non-profits, and the faith-based community; reviewing opportunities for funding on state and federal initiatives to address homelessness; identifying housing, medical, legal, financial, and...
