Nominating & Rules Committee Minutes

Tuesday, February 6, 2007

6:15 p.m.

 

Members present were: Tim McCall, Chris Moore, Cecil Province and Ann Williams.

 

ELECTION OF A CHAIRMAN

 

Councilman Moore motioned, seconded by Councilwoman Williams, to elect Councilman McCall as chairman of the Nominating and Rules Committee for 2007. All voted aye.

 

PLANNING

 

Resolution to appoint Joe Tomlinson to the MAPC:  City Planner Otis Spriggs explained Mr. Jerry Sexton recently resigned from the MAPC and they recommended appointing Mr. Joe Tomlinson to fill the vacancy. Councilman Moore motioned, seconded by Councilman Province, to approve the resolution and recommend it to full Council. All voted aye.

 

PARKS AND RECREATION

 

Resolution to appoint Jay Clevenger and Fred Hargett to the Parks and Recreation Planning and Advisory Committee:  Councilman Moore motioned, seconded by Councilwoman Williams, to approve the resolution and recommend it to full Council. All voted aye.

 

OTHER

 

Chairman McCall discussed filling the vacant City Council Ward 6, Position 2 seat. He explained he made packets for all of the Council members that contained the information submitted by the four candidates. He suggested holding a special meeting to interview the four candidates and then vote on who will fill the vacancy at the regular Council meeting on February 20th.  He noted that would give everyone enough time to review the candidates’ information before the interviews. Councilman Moore motioned, seconded by Councilwoman Williams, to recommend Chairman McCall’s plan to the full Council. All voted aye.

With no further business, Councilman Moore motioned, seconded by Councilwoman Williams, to adjourn. All voted aye.
