AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE STOP SIGNS ON CERTAIN STREETS AT THEIR INTERSECTIONS WITH OTHER STREETS; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLAITON THEREOF; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

Section 1: The City Council finds and declares that the condition of traffic is such as to endanger the traveling public and pedestrians at certain streets at their intersections and that, stop signs are hereby established and placed at the following intersections:

(A) A stop sign on Matthews at its intersection with Washington Street directing east bound traffic.
(B) A 4-way Stop Sign on Matthews Street at its intersection with Vine Street.
(C) A 4-way Stop Sign of Jefferson Street at its intersection with Walnut Street.
(D) A 4-way Stop Sign at the intersection of Frierson Street, Gee Street and Nettleton Avenue.
(E) A 4-way Stop Sign on Culberhouse Street at its intersection with Parkview Street.

Section 2: The drivers of all vehicles shall stop at said “Stop Signs” and yield the right-of-way to vehicles traveling upon the other streets before entering thereon or passing across.

Section 3: The Chief of Police or some other person designated by him is hereby directed to place and locate upon the above described streets at the proper places, appropriate signs reading “STOP” and it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to tear down, remove or mutilate such signs.

Section 4: Every person convicted of a violation of any provision of this Ordinance shall be punished by fine of not more than $25.00.

Section 5: All Ordinances and/or parts of Ordinances in conflict wherewith are hereby repealed.

Section 6: It is found and declared by the City Council that the increasing traffic congestion and lack of traffic control devices have caused danger to life and property and this Ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and th...
