The Jonesboro City Council conducted a Public Hearing on January 4, 1982, at 7:00 P.M. for the purpose of hearing those interested in condominium restrictions for the City of Jonesboro. Mr. Bob Gibson spoke concerning the zoning requirements and contended that the condominiums should not be built in R-1 zones but restricted to R-2, with additional setback requirements.

Mr. Dan Pierce addressed council and explained how the committee was formed and introduced those serving on the committee to draft the ordinance.

Mr. Joe Mahan, President of Chamber of Commerce, read letter to council from the Chamber which endorsed the ordinance. Mr. Joe Tomlinson also read a letter from Mr. Roy Cooper, Chairman of MAPC, which endorsed the ordinance.

Mr. Henry Gweschwend spoke concerning the high cost of single-family dwellings in the Unites States, indicating that the average cost of same is $60,000.00. He urged council to give the ordinance serious consideration. After all interested parties had spoken the Mayor declared the Public Hearing closed.

CITY COUNCIL MINUTES, JANUARY 4, 1982

The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session, Monday, January 4, 1982, the meeting beginning at 8:00 P.M. due to the lengthy public hearing session. Present, Mayor, City Clerk, City Attorney and all aldermen.

The minutes of December 21, 1981, were approved as mailed on motion by Mr. Hannah, second by Mr. Shelton.

Mr. Haggenmacher offered the following ordinance:

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 954, KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CHANGES IN ZONING BOUNDARIES AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

Mr. Stricklin moved the rules by suspended and the ordinance be placed on 2nd reading, second by Mr. Shelton, all aye. Mr. Stricklin moved the rules be further suspended and the ordinance be placed on 3rd reading, seconded by Mr. Minx, all aye.
