Minutes for the City Council meeting on January 19, 1959

The City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Ark. met in regular session at City Hall, Monday night, Jan. 19, 1959, at 7:30 p.m. There were present: Mayor, City Clerk and the following named Councilmen: Keister, Johnson, Snow, Williams, Griffin, Brickell, Field, Heern, Smith, Copeland and Ebbert. Absent: Parks and City Atty.
Mr. Snow offered the following Ordinance and placed it on the first reading:
AN ORDINANCE TO ABANDON A PORTION OF A STREET IN RIDGECREST ADDITION
Mr. Brickell made the motion seconded by Mr. Heern that the rules be suspended and the Ordinance be placed on the second reading. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried. Mr. Heern made the motion seconded by Mr. Copeland that the rule be suspended and the Ordinance be placed on the third and final reading. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried. Mr. Snow made the motion seconded by Mr. Field that the Ordinance be adopted. Roll was called. All aye. Ebbert passed. Motion carried. Roll was called on the emergency clause. All aye. The ordinance was given the number 979.
Mr. Heern made the motion seconded by Mr. Johnson that the City Atty. draws up a lease to continue using the present dumping ground for another year. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried.
After the Committee recommended the purchase of Radar for the City, Mr. Johnson made the motion seconded by Mr. Brickell that the Patrolmaster Radar be purchased at a cost of $1,399.00. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried.
Mr. Copeland made the motion seconded by Mr. Ebbert that the Mayor’s appointments to the City Planning Commission be approved. They are Dean Ellis, Lloyd Rebsamen and Al Hendrix reappointed for a term of three years. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried.
Mr. Ebbert made the motion seconded by Mr. Brickell that the bills as okayed by the Finance Committee be paid. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried.
