CITY COUNCIL MEETING JUNE 21, 1976

The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session, Monday, June 21, 1976, at 7:30 p.m. There were present: Mayor, City Clerk, City Attorney, and the following named aldermen: Bowers, Sanderson, Bridger, Burns, Stricklin, Minx, Smith, Hinson, Haggenmacher, Johnson, Hannah, Darling.

A resident of the Fairview area spoke to Council concerning the drainage problems that exist in this area, and the mayor advised that the matter will be turned over to the Engineering Department for a cost estimate.

Mr. Arlis Johnson, Chairman of the Jonesboro Parks Commission, spoke concerning the Council’s action of the previous meeting, and advised them of the accomplishments made under the leadership of Mearl Henry. Mr. Hervey Aycock, Vice Chairman, also spoke to Council and asked that they reconsider their previous actions. Mr. Jim Hannah spoke in behalf of Mearl Henry, and then moved that Council repeal their action of two weeks ago concerning the termination of the temporary position of Parks Director, seconded by Mr. Stricklin. Roll call voting aye: Bowers, Stricklin, Hannah. Voting nay: Sanderson, Bridger, Minx, Smith, Hinson, Haggenmacher, Johnson, Darling. Mr. Burns passed. Motion failed.

The following ordinance was on 3rd reading:

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE #954 KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE CHANGES IN ZONING BOUNDARIES

Mr. Sanderson moved for the adoption of the ordinance to include the emergency clause, seconded by Mr. Hinson, all aye. The ordinance was given #1515.

The following bids were opened on used fire trucks:

1954 GMC pumper 5105.00 Bay

Mr. Haggenmacher moved that the trucks be sold to the highest bidder, seconded by Mr. Smith, all aye.
