Minutes for the City Council meeting on March 21, 1955

The City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas met in regular session on the above named date in the City Hall at 7:30 p.m. There were present: Mayor, City Clerk, City Atty. And the following named Councilmen: Hamilton, Hall, Snow, Copeland, Hendrix and Taylor. Absent: Powell, Stricklin and Johnson.
The Insurance Committee gave a report of insurance carried by the City and Buck Pryor made suggestions as to changes. Mr. Snow made the motion, seconded by Mr. Hamilton, that any decisions delayed until the next regular meeting. Roll was called. Five voting aye. Mr. Hall, passing. Motion carried.
Mr. Snow made the motion, seconded by Mr. Taylor, that Mrs. Faye Kaffka be granted a permit to operate a Beauty Shop in her home, 1315 Huntington. Roll was called. All voting aye. Motion carried. Permit granted.
The Mayor recommended Mr. Joe Barrett for a five year appointment to the Jonesboro Public Library Board. Mr. Copeland made the motion that Mr. Barrett be appointed. Mr. Taylor seconded the motion. Roll was called. All voting aye. Motion carried.
Mr. Hamilton made the motion on the Mayor’s recommendation to reappoint R.H. Patton from the 3rd ward to a 1 year term on the City Water & Light Board. Mr. Hendrix seconded the motion. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried.
Mr. Hamilton made the motion, seconded by Mr. Hall, that A.L. Hendrix be appointed to the City Water & Light Board for a 3 year term. Roll was called. Five voting aye. Mr. Hendrix passing. Motion failed for lack of quorum.
Mr. Hall made the motion, seconded by Mr. Hamilton, that Vance Scurlock be appointed to a three year term to replace R.H. Patton on the School Board. Roll was called. All voting aye. Motion carried.
Mr. Taylor made the motion, seconded by Mr. Hamilton, that signs be painted on the Police Car subject to the approval of the Police Committee with power to act. Roll was called. All voting aye. Motion carried.
