The City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Ark., met in regular session on the above named date at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall. There were present: Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk and the following named Councilmen: Keister, Johnson, Fritz, Fields, Copeland, Stricklin, Powell, Snow, Hamilton and Hart.

Mr. Fields made the motion, seconded by Mr. Hart, that the Friendship Assembly of God Church be given a 30-day permit to solicit funds. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried. Stricklin absent on this motion.

Mr. Snow made the motion, seconded by Mr. Keister, that Mr. Sam McClish be granted a permit to build and operate a sandwich and coffee shop in the 2100 Block on Highway 39. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried. Mr. Stricklin absent on this motion.

The motion was made by Mr. Hamilton, seconded by Mr. Fields, to grant a permit to build a new funeral home to Farmer’s Union Association on the corner of Johnson and F Street. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried.

The Council advised the property owners of Freeman St. to consult with the Commissioner of Drainage District 30 on their bridge problem, as the City hand no funds to build the bridge this year.

Captola Bennett gave the Colored Community Center report. After all bills are paid they will have a small cash balance on hand.

Mr. Copeland made the motion, seconded by Dr. Fritz, that the Mayor and Street Committee examine Valley Drive, a new street, and make a recommendation to the Council at the next meeting. All aye. Motion carried.

Mr. Keister offered the following ordinance and placed it on the first reading:

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NUMBER 892 OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, SAME BEING AN ORDINANCE TO ESTABLISH CERTAIN STANDARD REQUIREMENTS IN REGARD TO THE EMPLOYMENT OF MEMBERS OF THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO
