RESOLUTION DECLARING A NEED FOR ASSISTANCE WITH DRAINAGE ON HIGHWAY 39

BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

That the City Council of Jonesboro, Arkansas, hereby determines, finds and declares that certain areas in the Southwest part of the City receive heavy damage from flooding in the spring of each year, and

WHEREAS, the Council determines that the ditch which crosses Highway 39 at the location of the Malco Drive-In Theater does not properly carry the water from the area in that the culvert running under the highway is too small to carry the water under the highway adequately causing the water to back up over the homes and businesses on the North side of the highway, and

WHEREAS, the continual flooding of this area due to the poor drainage causes thousands of dollars of damages to the residents of the area each year, and

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS RESOLVED that the City Council take immediate and appropriate steps to contact the Arkansas Highway Commission and other interested agencies for immediate assistance to relieve this drainage problem.
