AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING PARKING ON PORTIONS OF WEST MONROE AVENUE; PROVIDING PENALITIES FOR VIOLATIONS THEREOF; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

 

Section 1: From and after passage and adoption of this Ordinance, no person, firm or corporation shall park, stop or leave standing any vehicle of any kind whatsoever on West Monroe Avenue from Madison Street to Flint, except at curb cut-backs.

 

Section 2: The Chief of Police or some person designated by him is hereby directed to place and locate appropriate signs reading “NO PARKING” at appropriate places along the foregoing streets as set forth in this Ordinance and it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to tear down, remove, or mutilate such signs.

 

Section 3: Any person, firm or corporation violating the provisions of this Ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and fined in any sum not to exceed $15.00, with each day a violation continues to be a separate offense.

 

Section 4: It is found and declared by the City Council that due to the greatly increased traffic in the vicinity and over the above named streets the parking of vehicles on said street and in the locations above mentioned creates a traffic hazard and resulting injury to personas or property and this Ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace and safety, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this Ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage and approval.
