AN ORDINANCE ENTERING INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE ARKANSAS STATE HIGHWAY AND TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT FOR THE SIGNALIZATION OF U. S. HIGHWAY 18 AND RAINS STREET, AND APPROPRIATING CITY MATCHING FUNDS

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro has expressed the willingness to utilize federal-aid monies for the signalization of U. S. Highway 18 and Rains Street and has authorized the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department to initiate action to construct this City Project; and

 

WHEREAS, the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department has notified the City that a contract will be awarded for the project upon receipt of the City’s matching funds for the project;

 

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas that;

 

SECTION 1: The Mayor is hereby authorized to submit payment for the City’s matching share of costs for the project to the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department.

 

SECTION 2: There is hereby appropriated the sum of $12,373.43 from the unappropriated balance of City Sales Tax Funds for the City’s matching share of costs for the Project.

 

SECTION 3: Due to the time frame for writing the check for the City of Jonesboro’s share of $12,373.43 to be provided to the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department for Signalization of Highway 18 and Rains Street an emergency is declared to exist, and this ordinance being necessary for the preservation of public peace, health and safety shall take effect and be in full force from and after its passage and approval.
