AN ORDINANCE FORMING AND CREATING A SIXTH (NETTLETON) WARD TO THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

WHEREAS, a special election was duly called and hold on the 27th day of May, 1958, in the cities of Jonesboro and Nettleton, Arkansas, upon the question of consolidating said cities; and
WHEREAS, at such special election a majority of all votes cast in both the cities of Jonesboro and in Nettleton were for such consolidation; and
WHEREAS, an order of the Craighead County Court has been duly made and entered on May 31, 1958, ordering such consolidation and declaring the results of said special election; and
WHEREAS, it is found that said election, the notice thereof, and all things leading up thereto and in connection therewith have been done in accordance with the laws thereunto in such cases made and provided.
BE IT THEREFORE ORDAINED AND ENACTED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:
SECTION 1: That from and after the passage and adoption of this ordinance all the territory formerly comprising the boundary of the City of Nettleton, Arkansas, be and is hereby designated and created as a sixth ward of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, said ward to be commonly known as the “Nettleton Ward”.
SECTION 2: It is found and determined that the formation of the former corporate limits of the City of Nettleton into one ward to be a sixth ward to the City of Jonesboro is in the best interest of the combined cities, and it is further found to be urgent and necessary that such ward be created immediately for the proper administration and function of the government of said combined cities, and that this ordinance is necessary for the immediate preservation and protection of the public peace, health, safety and welfare; therefore, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this ordinance shall be in full force and effects immediately upon and after its passage and adoption.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 2nd day of June, 1958.
